My New Post In Crime Writers’ Chronicle

I have a new guest post in Crime Writers’ Chronicle, the wonderful blog shared by 6 (or is it 7?) mystery writers. This is my second piece for them. The first was 2 years ago, when I wrote about getting back into publishing after a long absence. The new piece is an update, but I also discuss a problem I’ve noticed in the publishing industry that directly affects me. Maybe it affects you, too.

  1. Tom: First of all, I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to see that you’re writing again. I’m a huge fan and your absence left a terrible void in what has been out there. I am a published mystery writer myself and recently attended a crime writers conference. Many of the writers I met, particularly the women, had authored cozies. Most of these were series books in which an amateur detective not only solved crimes but offered up the occasional recipe as well. I’m sure many people enjoy these books but they’re not my preference. The stories I enjoy reading (and writing, for that matter) are suspense thrillers. Stand-alones, like yours. Girl on the Train? Loved it. I thought Gone Girl was excellent as well. Mind you, the protagonist doesn’t have to be flawed for me to enjoy a book, but I don’t mind if he or she is — providing the story is good. I look forward to reading your new work (and will probably be rereading some of your older books as well.) Vivian
